The Challenge
This multi residential complex is situated such that it is surrounded by elevated properties on two sides that created a sunken courtyard feel right from the start.
The existing outdoor space was in need of renovation of ammenities and overgrown by surrounding vegetation.
The task at hand was to create an outdoor space that would provide for enjoyment by the residents in groups or smaller quiet conversations, and to create a little oasis in an urban environment.
The Solution
While the courtyard feel was naturally provided, there was a considerable amount of stone and concrete that need to be softened by raised beds and plantings, including vines and tall grasses to screen cars in the parking lot adjacent to the site.
The existing Limestone bank was cleaned off and modified with added stone blended in seamlessly to create planting pockets.
Two seating areas were created and set at different levels to provide a degree of separation, allowing for private conversations and contemplation.
